John O Hicks is a Manchester based fashion illustrator creating boldly energetic works that delve into the relationship between fashion, gender, character and story telling. Using a mixture of acrylic paints, watercolours and inks, to recreate not only the beauty of luxury fashions but also celebrate the personalities underneath. His work challenges the traditionally exclusive notions of the industry, instead opting for a more playful and approachable aura that celebrates individuality and creativity.

Borrowing from a range of influences, from Haute Couture, to queer subcultures, he approaches illustration as more than an exercise in depicting clothing. The characters in his work convey movement, attitude, humour and a place to be that invites a sense of world building into his work. Through punk-like mark making, expressive linework and bold colours, John O Hicks lowers a draw bridge for his audience to join in on a world of energy and joy.

Hicks honed his unique design sensibilities at Liverpool John Moores university studying fashion design before furthering his studies at the Jimmy Choo Academy graduating in 2024 where he was mentored by leading fashion industry titans. During his studies, his boldly distinct illustrations were awarded the Fashion Illustration Award at Graduate Fashion Week in 2023.

In 2026,  his piece “Smoking Peacock” was exhibited at HOME Open in Manchester, an annual exhibition celebrating emerging artists from across the region.

Today, Hicks' practice continues to blur the boundaries between fashion illustration and fine art. Through expressive painterly techniques and a deep fascination with fashion as performance, he creates work that invites audiences into vibrant, theatrical worlds where clothing becomes a vehicle for identity, humour and human connection.
